The Co-op Update: Increased Freedom, Streamlined Matchmaking, Improved Stability
Greetings, Lampbearers,
Lords of the Fallen has undergone quite a journey since its launch in October 2023, with our online co-op modes receiving some of the most significant changes during this time.
We originally launched with Seamless Co-op, allowing Lampbearers to play together for as long as either chose. Then in April 2025, we added an additional mode alongside this: Full Shared-Progression Co-op, which meant both players would share all mainline progress during online sessions.
We also added a Free Friends Pass as part of V2.0, allowing you to play online with any other player, regardless of whether they owned the game.
We have continued to monitor your feedback, and today are making further improvements to the co-op experience to enhance your immersion within the realms of Mournstead.
We’ve streamlined matchmaking, expanded co-op functionality, and improved overall session stability, alongside a range of bug fixes and performance enhancements shaped by your feedback.
Shared Progression
By popular demand, we have increased the level of freedom guest players have when playing Shared Progression Co-op to create a more unified experience in your joint battle against the darkness.
Your fellow Lampbearer can now perform the following actions, previously restricted to the host:
- Upgrade equipment (i.e. Sanguinarix, Umbral Lamp, weapons)
- Socket upgrade items
- Interact with Vendor NPCs
- Use Chrysalis Rebirth
- Rest and warp between Vestiges
- Plant Vestige seeds
- Begin boss battles
- Skip cutscenes
Non-Shared Progression
When playing Non-Shared Progression Co-op, you will now have the option to choose whether your guest has Full or Limited privileges.
Limited Privileges
Guests can perform the following actions:
- Use Chrysalis Rebirth
- Rest at Vestiges
- Socket upgrade items
- Upgrade equipment (i.e. Sanguinarix, Umbral Lamp, weapons)
- Interact with Vendor NPCs
Full Privileges
Guests can perform the following actions:
- Upgrade equipment (i.e. Sanguinarix, Umbral Lamp, weapons)
- Socket upgrade items
- Interact with Vendor NPCs
- Use Chrysalis Rebirth
- Rest and warp between Vestiges
- Plant Vestige seeds
- Begin boss battles
- Skip cutscenes
Improved Matchmaking & Session Flow
Joining forces with another Lampbearer is now simpler and more reliable.
To begin a co-op session:
- Visit any Vestige and access the Multiplayer menu
- Set a password and share it with your friend
- Ensure both players have the same progression settings selected
For matchmaking, simply leave the password field empty.
Bug Fixes & Improvements
